Identifying Air Conditioning Problems

Last summer, after carefully planning a family reunion for months, the worst thing in the world happened. My air conditioner died right in the middle of the night--when we had our entire family staying at our house. People were uncomfortable and grumpy because of the heat, and it was really embarrassing. Fortunately, we were able to get an HVAC contractor out to help us, and they did an awesome job fixing things fast. To prevent problems in the future, I decided that it would be smart to learn how to identify air conditioning problems. My website is all about finding the things that are wrong with your HVAC system and preventing issues.

3 Things You Need To Know About Your House And Odors

Odors are a simple part of life. There is no way to get around your house, your clothing, or your car becoming unpleasant smelling at some point. Luckily, these odors usually wear off on their own and you don't have to do much to treat them, but in some cases, the odors need professional assistance. Here are some things you should consider.

What Kind Of Odors Need Professional Help?

First, most odors will take care of themselves, like previously mentioned. But there are some substances that will soak themselves into the fiber of the walls, the carpets, and the house itself that will make it harder to fully remove. One of the hardest to remove is smoke. This can be cigarette smoke, of people who continually smoke inside their house. But it can also be smoke from an accidental fire. If you burned something in the microwave and it sent smoke throughout your house, it could damage some of the house.

Another thing that can damage the house, is mold. Usually people notice the smell of mold before they notice anything else. This will need to be professionally removed. And in some cases pets and even children that have soiled flooring without proper cleaning can be cause for professional services.

What Will Professionals Do?

Professionals can help to clean the actual fibers of the flooring and the walls to make sure that the cause of the smell is removed as much as possible. In some cases they will need to use chemicals to remove it, and in other cases they will be able to get it cleaned without harsh chemicals. It all depends on the severity.

Additionally, the cause for the smell can be inside the ducts, air vents and around the house. So an HVAC company may be needed to come and totally clean the air vents.

Is There Anything I Can Do?

Prevention is always the best key. Clean up messes, especially spills as soon as they happen. Get routine care to your HVAC system to ensure that there are no problems in the vent and with the system. Since the HVAC blows air throughout the whole house, naturally a dirty system will result in poor air quality. And use things like baking soda and other natural deodorizers to clean areas of the house that may stink.

These are just a couple things that you need to know about odor elimination in your home. For more information, contact companies like Advanced Air Quality Services.
